HISTORY:
The origins of the University began in 1881 with the founding of University College Nottingham, presided over by four professors of Literature, Physics, Chemistry and Natural Science. In 1928 the College moved to a purpose built campus on the edge of the city. Lecturers at this time included Albert Einstein, HG Wells and Mahatma Gandhi. In 1948 the University was granted a royal charter and renamed Nottingham University.
It’s reputation for teaching is widespread but particularly noteworthy subjects include Economics, Law and Pharmacy.
LOCATION:
Nottingham is a campus university which is situated on three distinct sites and there is a teaching hospital, Queens Medical Centre which is located just opposite the main campus. The main campus is the University Park Campus which is west of the city centre. The 330 acres of parkland at University Park house most of the teaching facilities, the main library and the Student Union and most halls of residence. One mile away from University Park is the Jubilee Campus which is home to the Schools of Education, Computer Science and the Nottingham Business School. The Sutton Bonnington Campus is 12 miles south of the city centre and houses the School of Bioscience and the School of Veterinary Medicine. Other University sites including the Department of Manuscript and administration facilities are based at other locations within the city. Travel around the city is easy and the University provides a free and frequent hopper bus between the campus sites.
RANKING:
University of Nottingham is ranked 141st in the Times Higher Education rankings. Nottingham is ranked between 101-150th in the Shanghai Jiao Tong rankings and Nottingham is a member of the Russell Group of universities.
University of Nottingham is ranked 64th in the National Student Survey Satisfaction rankings.
INTERNATIONAL:
Published figures for international students, including those from EU countries, indicate over 9200 students from 130 countries currently studying at Nottingham. This represents approximately 28% of all students.
SIZE:
Nottingham is a large university with over 33,300 students in total. Recent figures indicate that over 23,600 of students are undergraduates, 8,150 are postgraduates, and around 1,500 are following other courses.

96.6% of Nottingham’s graduates enter directly into work, further study or training within 6 months of graduation (source:HESA). FACILITIES:
Lakeside Arts Centre situated at the entrance to the main campus is Nottingham University’s public arts facility. It incorporates the DH Lawrence Pavilion which houses a theatre, the Weston Gallery housing the University’s manuscript collection, the Wallner Art Gallery and a series of visual arts and performance spaces. The University also owns the Djanogly art gallery, recital hall and theatre. Nottingham Students Union supports 190 societies and 79 sports clubs. Nottingham itself is a busy and vibrant city with an active cultural scene including two theatres, museums, art galleries and music venues. It is also the home of the National Water Sports Centre.
ACCOMMODATION:
The University owns a range of catered and self-catered halls of residence. Most are located on the main University Park Campus, with 4 nearby on the Jubilee Campus and more further afield on other sites. All new students are guaranteed a room in university owned accommodation for their first year.
The lowest price for a single room with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities is £108.00 per week.

Fees for full time undergraduate courses start at £19,000 for most Arts, Humanities, Business and Social Science degrees. Science and Engineering degrees are charged at £25,000.

Nottingham University offers a range of postgraduate e-courses, many of which are for the purpose of continued professional development. Subjects include MScs in Brewing Science or Applied Ergonomics, and MAs in Education, Linguistics, Digital Teaching and Learning, and English. An LLM in Human Rights Law is available, as is a certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
