International schools – those with a focus on English language development for students who need to increase their fluency in either written or spoken English (beginner – IELTS 5)

Mainstream schools – schools for British students that also take international pupils who have already attained an English language competency equivalent to at least IELTS 5 (fluent speakers and highly competent in written English)

The British Association of Independent Schools with International Students (BAISIS) is a member of the Boarding Schools’ Association. BAISIS’s mission is to define and share best practice in academic and pastoral provision for international students in British independent schools and colleges. BAISIS members consist of 98 UK boarding schools and colleges who meet regularly for networking and training & development sessions and to share best practice in the field.
