HISTORY: Windermere School began as St Anne’s School, located in Lytham, St Anne’s, in 1863. The school moved to its current location in Windermere in 1924, when it became St Anne’s School, Windermere. In 1990, the school changed its name again to Windermere St Anne’s and the final alingment with the community came in 2010 when it became Windermere School.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR: As a school, they strive to do more than equip our children academically for the future. Developing resilience has perhaps never been as important as it is now and their forward-thinking pastoral programme has this aim at its heart. They focus on teaching children how to proactively manage their mental health, how to appreciate and celebrate the community’s diversity, particularly neurodiversity and how to show compassion and kindness within the Windermere School community and beyond. The work of their form tutors, allowing children to experience mindfulness practice or reflecting with them on good sleep hygiene is supported by the work of our new Wellbeing Centre. A strong sense of self-esteem can help pupils reach their full potential and their staff embrace their duty to provide support to each and every individual. They believe good relationships are the key to success whether it is on the sports field, academically, creatively, or in outdoor pursuits.
ENGLISH SUPPORT: International students receive specialised EAL (English as an Additional Language) tuition and have the option of a tailored package of study options to suit individual requirements for an additional fee.
POST-16 QUALIFICATIONS: Windermere is an International Baccalaureate World School offering the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-Related Programme. IB World Schools share a common philosophy: a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education. They also offer IB Certificate courses and standalone vocational qualifications, to offer an educational pathway perfectly tailored to your needs.
PRE-16 QUALIFICATIONS: The school offers GCSE/IGCSE courses, along with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and Career-Related Programme, in addition to Business BTEC.
ACCOMMODATION: Nestling in the Lake District fells, the School offers boarders the chance to learn and live in a less hectic and more peaceful environment. Senior boarders enjoy the independence of living away from home while being part of a large community of staff and pupils with who they share this unforgettable experience. The weekend programme is packed with trips to the theatre, tours of the area, shopping expeditions, and leisure activities such as bowling and roller-blading. Boarders form strong friendships with day pupils who regularly join in with the weekend activity programme.
PASTORAL: As a school, they strive to do more than equip their children academically for the future. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF...
"Finding Windermere School has been a transformational experience for our family. When we moved up from London, we found ourselves welcomed by the whole community. The School provides not only a first class academic grounding for our children, but also knows both of them inside out as individuals. It plays to and encourages their strengths, whilst helping them to work on the areas where they are less strong. The range of opportunities offered seems boundless - in technology, speech and drama, games, sports, art, music, cooking, gardening, photography - I could go on and on. The School makes the most of our magnificent surroundings to develop the children's life skills and confidence. Despite its friendly and close-knit feel, it has a deep belief in internationalism and has a broad, outward-looking approach to the world beyond Windermere, which is very important to us. We feel very lucky to have such a fantastic school on our doorstep here in the Lakes." (Parent testimonial) -
