    St. Francis’ College, founded in 1933, is an all-girls boarding school for pupils aged between 3 – 18 years old. There are approximately 400 girls in the school, of which 60 are full boarders from the UK and around the world. International Boarders are welcomed from the age of 10. There is a dedicated English as an Additional Language Department to support students who do not speak English as a first language. International students can join the College for; a short integration programme, a one-term school immersion course or study at the College longer term to gaining UK qualifications (GCSE and A Levels) that open the door to University.

    Pupils can board at St. Francis’ from Year 6, and there is the option of weekly or flexi boarding, although the majority board full-time.

    The College is run by an educational charity and welcomes girls of all faiths or none. The College blends traditional values and a modern vision.

    Location

    St Francis’ is based half way between Cambridge and London in Letchworth Garden City, a rural Hertfordshire Town. The nearest airport is Luton which is approximately 13 miles away, with London Heathrow being 46 miles away (50 minutes by car). Letchworth is located half way on the main train line connecting London and Cambridge. The journey time, by direct train, from London Kings Cross station is 35 minutes.

    Day in the life of….

    A warm welcome to St Francis’. We have a long and successful tradition of welcoming students from all over the world. Our international students are integrated into every aspect of College life; they follow a full curriculum and participate in a wide range of social events and activities. We provide lessons in English as Additional Language (EAL) and subject-specific support to ensure that those students who do not have English as a first language are as successful as their local classmates.
    Our normal school day starts at 7.30am, when boarders are woken, dress and have breakfast in the dining room. Lessons are from 8.40pm until 4pm, with a break for lunch and activities.

    There is plenty to do at St Francis’- we have a 330-seat purpose-built theatre, a 20-metre indoor heated swimming pool, gymnasium, dance studio, hockey pitches and five courts for both netball and tennis. There is a well-equipped, modern science laboratory and IT suites support the latest learning and technology.
    We have a strong tradition in art, dance, drama and music. The recycled fashion Show is a popular annual event, and the girls are adept at developing their own photographs in the dark room

    After lessons, boarders return to the Boarding House for a snack and to relax, before Prep starts at 4.30pm. Academic tutors are always on hand to help if anyone is having any difficulties.

    Then at 6pm, its supper and onto the range of evening activities offered from; Yoga and Zumba to Cookery Club. After the activities, it is about 8.30pm and time to relax and get ready for bed. Common Rooms and corridors are all quiet by 10pm.
    Weekends have a different routine, Saturday’s there is usually a trip, to somewhere like; London, Cambridge, Harry Potter Studios and Sunday is a day to relax and partake in activities closer to the school.
    We are delighted to have some notable alumni including: Jenny Bond, previously the BBC Royal Correspondent, Adenike Grange, former Nigerian Minister in charge of the Federal Ministry of Health, Claire Slater, Actress, Deborah Mary Turness, British Journalist and former Editor of ITV News
