HISTORY:
Kingsley school has an age range of 0-19 (nursery, pre-school, Prep School & Senior School).
Over 300 years of parallel history come together at Kingsley School following the mergers of three great schools to form this thriving co-educational independent day and boarding school in North Devon. Read the fascinating history of Kingsley School below.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR:
The Expansive Curriculum at Kingsley School develops individuals’ interests and talents in sport, performing arts, outdoor education including environmentalism and sustainability, academic expansion and leadership opportunities.
Each area has its own range of associated activities with clear goals for achievement and fulfilment. There are many opportunities both inside and outside of lessons for students to be active, get involved, and make a real difference to both themselves and others.
ENGLISH SUPPORT:
Kingsley offers EAL (English as an Additional Language) to all International students and the school also has an International Study Centre for pupils that require additional, intensive support with their English. International students can study for IELTS qualifications and IGCSEs. Fees for the International Study Centre are additional and are calculated on an individual basis.
SIZE:
It has 256 pupils (excluding nursery and pre-school) and 105 of these pupils are currently boarders. It has students from over 10 different countries.
POST-16 QUALIFICATIONS:
Kingsley offers a Wide range of academic subjects and full access to Kingsley Online
Extended Project Qualifications for all Sixth Form students.
Individual support from personal Sixth Form tutors inside and outside the classroom
Expansive Curriculum focusing on sport, performing arts, wellbeing, environmentalism and sustainability.
The Expansive Curriculum allows students to continue with their passions and interests in sport, performing arts, outdoor education, leadership, academic curiosity, service and volunteering so that they are able to submit application forms for universities or apprenticeships of the very highest quality.
Kingsley has an Oxbridge Programme for Lower Sixth Form/Year 12 students - for both boarders and day pupils. This new Sixth Form programme is for students who have a goal of a place to study at The University of Oxford or The University of Cambridge. Pupils will be based at Kingsley but will have direct access to the school's new dedicated Oxbridge study centre at Oxford University for residential stays during the Sixth Form.
PRE-16 QUALIFICATIONS:
Year 10 & 11 students build on their interests and strengths, choosing GCSE subjects that will develop their love of learning. Students are encouraged and guided to study subjects they enjoy in broad areas of interest. There are no right or wrong subject combinations!
Character education and wellbeing are important parts of the Year 10 and 11 curriculum to ensure that our students really do become the very best versions of themselves.

The aim of their boarding houses is simply to be the best home away from home, a place our boarders enjoy returning to, a place of fun and companionship, to share and celebrate the good things in their lives as well as a source of support, advice and guidance.

SEN:
KIngsley School offers a range of inclusive provision for students with dyslexia and autism, which is bespoke to meet individual needs. Classrooms and class teaching are dyslexia and ASC friendly. The learning and development centre offer 1:1 and small group support focusing on developing literacy and numeracy skills as well as social skills and recognition of emotions. Students requiring further support can access key adult support in some of all classes. For students with moderate ASC the school offer an enhanced provision in the 'Grenville Centre', in small classes with children who have communication and interactions needs. Students access social skills and sensory intervention and a curriculum that is tailored to meet their needs, as well as having access to mainstream lessons, as appropriate.

Environmental sustainability is the cornerstone of a Kingsley education – making the world a better place. It is seen as more than just an ethos or a philosophy, it is an integral part of Kingsley’s academic curriculum (inside the classroom) and expansive curriculum (outside the classroom).
