Integrated Skills in English (ISE) exams for university entry
For students wishing to apply to university, in the UK for instance, ISE is a widely recognised 4-skills exam which is available from A2-C2 level on the Common European Framework (CEFR).
ISE is also recognised as a Secure English Language Test (SELT) by UK Immigration and Visas. This means candidates may take ISE (SELT) as English language evidence for pre-degree programmes, as well as ISE (SELT and non-SELT) for undergraduate, postgraduate, research and specialist degrees.
B2 is normally the level is required for a Tier 4 General student VISA which will allow you/your child to study at a UK university. B2 level is equivalent to a Trinity ISE II level qualification. It is recommended that the applicant checks the entry requirements specified by their chosen institutions, as these may vary.
What does a Trinity ISE qualification measure?
An effective English language assessment should both assess the language and transferrable skills needed to excel in higher education. Degree-level courses require students to present, interact, initiate and lead conversation as well as plan, note-take and use source texts to synthesis and create a text dealing with a common theme. Therefore, an English language assessment is much more than a certificate a student uses to meet their university offer: a quality English language assessment will help equip and prepare a candidate which will help facilitate their success once on their course.
What does each ISE exam cover?
ISE tests evaluate
– Speaking and listening
– Reading and writing
Each skill is reported on the issued certificate, in line with what universities request, e.g. the 4 skill scores.
