HISTORY: Originally known as Newcastle Polytechnic, the University was formed in 1969 from the amalgamation of three regional colleges: Rutherford College of Technology (founded in 1880), the College of Art & Industrial Design, and the Municipal College of Commerce. The Polytechnic became a University in 1992, and by the year 2000 Northumbria University was the largest university in the North East of England, with a broad portfolio of courses and a rich cultural diversity in its student population. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zhfwYgkFVc
LOCATION: The University's estate in Newcastle comprises of two campuses, one in the heart of the city and one three miles away at Coach Lane. With its award-winning architecture, modern teaching buildings and impressive sports facilities, the City campus creates an environment that encourages learning and self-development. Coach Lane Campus is home to all students from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, and has excellent computing and library services; its own modern Students' Union, and new sports facilities. The University also offer courses in London. The campus is situated very close to Liverpool Street station. Most recently, The University has also introduced new programmes taught in Amsterdam.

FACILITIES: Facilities at the university of Northumbria include: £30 million Sport Central (gym, basketball courts, squash, swimming pool, sauna, etc.) Student Central library and study facilities, open 24/7 with secure smartcard access. State-of-the-art specialist teaching facilities for subjects including applied sciences, art and design, architecture, computer science, engineering, business, law The Students’ Union is located at the heart of the City Campus, with 100+ societies and 40+ sports clubs for students to get involved in, three award-winning bars, and some of the biggest club nights and gigs in Newcastle. Coach Lane Campus hosts the Nursing and Health Sciences facilities and sports grounds (rugby, football, etc.)
