Mount Kelly

Mount Kelly is a boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 4-18.

Key Information

If you like the outdoors, have a sense of adventure and are keen to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way then Mount Kelly is the school for you. At Mount Kelly we focus as much on the 'how' and the 'why', as on the 'what'; our staff understand that each step they take with a pupil informs more than the final outcome. Being a pupil at Mount Kelly is a journey of achievement, one that is literally and symbolically taken up each year by every member of our community on the Cox Tor Walk.

Academic performance Proud of the consistently strong public examination results achieved by our pupils, demonstrating clearly a key priority at Mount Kelly is fulfillment of academic potential. We combine high expectations with accurate monitoring of progress, carefully considered enrichment activities and individually tailored support to ensure that every child, across the ability range, meets and often exceeds those expectations. In Years 7 and 8 our pupils study at the Prep moving seamlessly to the College in Year 9. The academic programme for these year groups is designed to enrich and extend and to encourage critical thinking and exploration of new ideas.
Boarding accommodation The facilities and accommodation in the Houses include dormitories and study bedrooms for boarders, communal rooms, and day rooms for day pupils. Younger pupils share dormitories with several members of their peer group to encourage integration and allow friendships to grow. As our pupils progress, they move to study bedrooms shared with fewer people wherever possible. Boarders and day pupils are valued equally, and every pupil belongs to one of our six houses: Courtenay, Marwood, Newton, and School House for boarders and Conway and Russell House for day pupils.
Pastoral care Our pastoral care gives emotional, social and academic support to pupils, enabling them to thrive and develop. There is a strong culture of collective responsibility amongst all the staff at Mount Kelly which contributes to the genuine friendliness within the school; something you can feel as you make your way up the drive. You will see happy children with a real sense of purpose in a relaxed but ordered environment.
Extra-curricular activities
General school facilities Mount Kelly offers first-class sporting facilities, including three all-weather pitches (two of which are floodlight), grass pitches for rugby, football, cricket and rounders, a 700m2 indoor sports hall, four squash courts, indoor and outdoor cricket nets including a permanent all-weather training facility, three cross-country courses, netball courts (one indoors), 50m and 25m indoor swimming pools and a heated outdoor pool.
