History of the School Originally two schools, The Royal School, founded in 1865 with a little help from Queen Victoria and Florence Nightingale, and Bath High School, founded in 1875 as one of the first Girls' Day School Trust school outside London, our school is a mixture of these two outstanding independent girls’ schools merging back in 1998. We are hugely proud of our heritage and illustrious history with every student, teacher, parent, patron and supporter having played a key role in shaping who we are today - a school providing pioneering, first-class education to girls.
Pre-16 qualifications Royal High School Bath maintains a commitment to breadth and balance during the GCSE years, with appropriate time given to creative arts, humanities and languages as well as core subjects. All students in Years 10 and 11 study English Language and English Literature, Mathematics, at least one Modern Language and Science. In Science, students achieve either a Science Double Award or a Triple Award International GCSE in Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics. Additional subjects including Dance and Classical options are also available. Our teaching aims for the best possible grades, but also continues to go beyond the test, combining enjoyment and enthusiasm with rigour and challenge.
Post 16 qualifications At Royal High School Bath we are proud to offer two distinct Sixth Form pathways, A Levels and the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. Our A Level programme allows students to focus on three main subjects with additional enrichment subjects, the Tripos and the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification). The IB Diploma is a highly regarded qualification enabling students to take a selection of subjects across six disciplines and is united by the Core of the diploma: Theory of Knowledge, CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) and the Extended Essay. There is a greater focus on coursework and a wider variety of forms of assessment.
