Location St George's is based near to the centre of the town of Ascot in Berkshire, famous for its racecourse and connections to the Royal family, and only 6 miles from Windsor Castle. Positioned in a beautiful quiet location, with a stunning, panoramic view of Swinley Forest to the south, the girls enjoy the full benefit of the 30 acres of uninterrupted greenspace and spacious facilities. The School is only 12 miles from Heathrow and 45 minutes from London by train
History of the School Originally founded as a prestigious boys' prep school in 1877, the next century brought a new owner and identity, as a finishing school for girls, infamous for their red cloaks. The school was then purchased by Miss Anne Loveday in 1923. St George's refocused its attention on providing education to girls so that they would be well placed to take advantage of Higher Education learning, and to secure meaningful employment. St George's has continued to grow in stature and reputation, developing a strong academic provision and remarkably broad co-curricular programme with an extensive suite of facilities.
Pre-16 qualifications Our core syllabus is designed to be well balanced and academically challenging and we tailor teaching and learning to meet individual needs. Small class sizes allow teachers to stretch the very brightest, and provide plenty of support for those who need it. GCSE options include core subjects - English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Science (2 or 3 GCSEs), a Modern Foreign Language (French or Spanish) and a Humanity (Geography, History or Religious Studies); in addition, two further choices from Art, Drama, Physical Education, Music, Textiles or a second Language or Humanity. The syllabus further include Study Skills, PE and PSHE.
Post 16 qualifications Most girls study three A Level subjects and complete the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). A few may take a fourth subject - usually Further Mathematics or a second language for a girl who is bilingual. In addition, girls follow an enrichment programme providing advice on life skills and university applications, leadership, talks, careers, and community service. They also continue with compulsory PE. A Level subjects offered are: Art, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Drama, Economics, English Literature, Further Mathematics, Geography, History, Mathematics, Modern Languages (French, Spanish or other languages by arrangement), Music, Photography, Physical Education, Physics, Politics, Psychology, Religious Studies, and Textiles.

Boarding accommodation Girls are housed in three boarding houses according to age: Markham for our junior boarders in Years 7-10; Knatchbull for Years 11 and Lower Sixth; and Loveday for our Upper Sixth boarders. These warm, homely buildings are situated securely within the School site. Girls are looked after by a Housemistress and additional staff, including Resident Tutors.
Pastoral care At St George's, our pastoral care is organised by Year Groups. Each Head of Year has overall responsibility for the academic progress and pastoral care of the girls in their Year Group and is supported by the Deputy Head Pastoral. They are supported by Year Group Tutors who develop a very close relationship with the girls in their care, understanding their interests and aspirations, identifying any areas in which they might struggle and supporting them accordingly. Sixth Form pupils train to become Peer-Point Counsellors, and a Healthcare professional is onsite every day. Boarders are further supported by their Housemistress
Extra-curricular activities An enviable range of co-curricular activities spanning sport, performing arts, creativity and design, academic extension and enterprise. We encourage girls to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme (DoE) and outreach programmes. Clubs and activities are part of the school day, running from 4.15-5.15pm and an active House events schedule runs alongside. Additional individual and group tuition, charged separately is available in disciplines including Dance (Natalie Vinson School of Dance).
