HISTORY: Kings was founded in Bournemouth 60 years ago by Frederick King, with Kings Brighton opening in 2017. Mr King’s vision was to promote better global understanding through education. These values and ethos continue at Kings today. Kings is a modern, small independent college for ambitious students looking for a mature yet supportive learning environment and community in which they can express their own identity, explore their interests and achieve their ambitions.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR: Kings Brighton offer a broad range of extra curricular activities such as: Student Council, Yoga/Pilates Club, Basketball Club, Textiles Club, Chess Club, Martial Arts Club, Astronomy Club, Football Club , Badminton Club,Beach volleyball.

ENGLISH SUPPORT: A broad range of EAL courses are available including; IELTS preparation, Cambridge Examinations, General, Intensive and English plus Business or Digital Media and Summer programmes. Extended academic courses provide a transition from study overseas in to UK education, developing students’ language and study skills in preparation for further academic study. Kings provides a range of English language and Summer programmes alongside; GCSE, iGCSE & A-level options. Both Extended level and Advanced Level Foundation courses are available with additional Foundation courses in Art & Design and International Business. The college also runs Easter revision programmes for day and boarding students.

SIZE: The college has 220 students in total and takes pupils from age 14 upwards. Over 35 countries are represented in the student body and 200 of the 220 pupils are boarders.

POST-16 QUALIFICATIONS: Kings has a maximum of 10 students on A-level programmes, 12 on other academic programmes and 14 on English language courses. They offer a wide range of subjects across sciences, arts and humanities. They will help you decide on the ones which are best for your intended degree.

PRE-16 QUALIFICATIONS: You will follow a mixed curriculum including Science, Mathematics, English and Humanities subjects. You will prepare for your GCSE exams in a range of subjects, depending on your academic level.

ACCOMMODATION: The college provides on-campus boarding in single en-suite rooms, with further off-campus and host family options also available. Kings Brighton does offer Boarding facilities at the school, rather than homestay, for an additional £6,958 per year.

PASTORAL: The Group Tutor Your constant point of reference for support and advice. The Accommodation Officer If you are from overseas, ensures you are secure and comfortable with your host family or in your student residence. Always available to resolve any problems. The Welfare Officer Helps you with any personal or emotional needs you have. Always available for friendly advice and support.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES Kings Education also has USA study locations; in Boston, New York, Los Angeles (2 locations) & New Jersey. Kings also offers pathway courses at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley that lead to degree courses at University of Wisconsin-Madison.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF...

Hi Sophia. What are you studying at Kings Brighton and why? I am studying English, to improve my English for University in the U.K. Why did you choose Kings? I chose Kings because firstly I found an agency in my country and they recommended Kings to me. They said the language course in Kings is very good for studying and students can enter a good university, so I trust him and I came here. How is your course going? The course is nice and I have improved my English. Where are you staying in Brighton? I am staying in the residence. The residence is very nice and also it is very near the school — it is in the same building so it is very convenient for me! Have you taken part in any of the enrichment classes? I have taken part in yoga class and the art class. I think the yoga class is very nice because I feel very relaxed. Art club is very nice because I can draw and paint. It is my subject so I really enjoy it. Have you made many friends? Yes, I made lots of friends that come from different countries. What do you think of the location of the school? I think the location in Brighton is very nice because it is not far from the sea and also they have many different kinds of shops near the school and many different types of restaurants like Japanese, Chinese, Italian and Turkish. It is very convenient as well as it is very close to the city centre and Churchill Square (shopping centre) is only 15 minutes by walking so the location is quite nice. Have you explored Brighton? Sometimes I walk to the beach in the afternoon because the scenery is very nice. In the evening, the sunset is very beautiful by the beach. The buildings are very colourful in Brighton and there are so many special shops, selling special clothes and souvenirs about the city, and I think it is very interesting. What can you tell us about your time in Kings? I think Kings is a very nice place. I think people here are very friendly and I also think the teachers here are very nice. The school is not too large so the students and teachers can get on very well. The teachers know all the students — it is like a family, the teachers know every student very well. If I have a problem, the teacher can solve it and I feel very warm about it. Sometimes even when the problem is personal, I can talk with the teacher. I think it is very good to choose here. Also the classes are small, there are not too many students so I feel very comfortable in a small group so I think the teacher can care about every student and also monitor the progress of each student. I think it is an advantage to choose here. On some special days like Christmas and Halloween, I think the school organised activities very well — like we had a party with staff, students and teachers which was very nice.
