UK University Guide for Parents is as much for parents and family members who are helping in the university selection process as for prospective students.
Information provided by universities is very much focused on the students themselves, but there are key points in the decision making process where we know parents are very influential and want information that answers their questions.
No one knows your child like you do and you offer a unique perspective about what type of university will suit them best. Often these will be things a young person may overlook and only think about once they have arrived at a university.
We want to help you to help them make the best decision possible at the planning stage.
How have we done this?
We have accessed information that may often be far more relevant to a parent, than the young person in question;
For example:
- How far is each university from an international airport and how long will it take them to reach the airport- so you can find out how long it will take them to get home.
- The location of each university-is it in a big city or small town, is it centrally based, near a main railway station?
- Is it a campus based university or are there different sites for different courses? How close together are they?
- Are the halls of residence near the campus and easy to get to?
These are examples of questions of safety, access, convenience that are often not easy to access on each university’s website. However, more importantly information like this allows you consider and imagine your child in different settings; a big city, with a spread out campus, and halls of residence a bus ride away or a small town, with one site and halls of residence on the campus.
We also, of course, cover costs, not only of the courses, but also of university approved accommodation and provide details on subject specialisms but our overall aim is to give you a full rounded view of the university, a unique, parent view.
We hope it helps you and your child make the very best decision possible.
