HISTORY: Bangor University has 23 academic schools grouped into 5 Colleges. The University was founded as the University College of North Wales. It opened its doors in 1884 in an old coaching inn with 58 students and 10 members of staff. The students received degrees from the University of London until 1893 when the University of Wales, Bangor became one of the three original constituent colleges of the University of Wales.
LOCATION: The university campus is centrally situated and all city amenities are very close by, as are the university halls of residence.
RANKING: Bangor university is ranked between 401-500th in the Times Higher Education World University rankings. Bangor is ranked between 601-700th in the Shanghai Jaio Tong University rankings. Bangor is not a member of the Russell group of universities.Bangor university is ranked 80th in the National Student Survey Satisfaction rankings.
INTERNATIONAL: International undergraduate tuition fees: Fees for full time undergraduate courses start at £15,250 for most Arts, Humanities, and Business courses, rising to £17,250 for Engineering courses.
SIZE: Latest figures indicate that Bangor has over 12,000 students. Approximately 10,000 are undergraduates and 2,000 are postgraduates.

FACILITIES: Maesglas is the University’s main sports centre and is situated next to the main campus. It provides sports and recreation facilities for both members of the University and is also open for use by the general public. Bangor’s new arts and innovation centre Pontio opened in 2014. It is home to a mid-scale theatre, a studio theatre, a cinema, design and innovation centre, Students' Union, spacious lecture theatres, social learning spaces, bar, café.
ACCOMMODATION: All Bangor’s university accommodation is self catering. The university offers 2,300 places in official university accommodation. The halls of residence are locally based and near the main university campus and all rooms are all en suite.The lowest price for a single room with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities is £100.00 per week.There is no catered university accommodation.
