HISTORY:
Dundee University had a 70 year relationship with the University of St Andrews before becoming an independent university in 1967. The University's origins date back to 1881 when University College, Dundee was founded. Its founding mission was "promoting the education of persons of both sexes and the study of science, literature and fine arts". In 1897 the school of medicine was opened when Dundee Royal infirmary was recognised by St Andrews as a teaching hospital. Dundee University is organised into 4 schools College of Art, Science and engineering, College of Life Sciences, College of Arts and Social Sciences, College of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing.
LOCATION:
The University of Dundee now has three campuses. The main City Campus, The Ninewells Campus, for students in the College of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing, and the Kirkcaldy Campus, one of the locations for the School of Nursing and Midwifery. The City Campus is situated very close to the city centre and the university accommodation. Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, home to the College of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing is located 3 miles from the city campus and the closest hall of residence in West Park which is about 1.5 miles from the campus. Kirkcaldy campus borders the town of Kirkcaldy in Fife. 35 miles from Dundee, this campus is one of the three locations for the School of Nursing and Midwifery and has its own accommodation.
RANKING:
University of Dundee is currently ranked between 201-250th in the Times Higher Education rankings. Dundee is ranked between 301 -400th in the Shanghai Tong Jiao rankings. Dundee is not a member of the Russell Group of universities.University of Dundee is ranked 39th in the National Student Survey Satisfaction rankings.
INTERNATIONAL:
Students study at Durham from over 100 countries. Latest recorded numbers of international students show there were almost 3,000 international students studying at the university, representing 16.5% of total student numbers.
SIZE:
Just under 18,000 students are studying at Dundee - nearly 12,000 are undergraduates and 6,000 are postgraduates.
EMPLOYMENT:
HESA government statistics show that 96.4% of Dundee’s graduates are in employment or in further education 6 months after graduation. FACILITIES:
There are more than 40 student societies affiliated to the Students' Association (DUSA). The sports facilities at Dundee include a gym, dance and exercise studios, squash courts, indoor sports hall, indoor swimming pool, tennis courts and 33 acres of sports ground for all major team sports. The sports centre, swimming pool and tennis courts are situated on the city centre campus. Art and Design facilities in Dundee comprise 4 gallery spaces within the Art and Design College.
ACCOMMODATION:
There are 4 residences on the main campus or nearby (West Park, the furthest, is approximately 1½ km, half way between the main campus and Ninewells campus). All study-bedrooms are furnished with a bed, wardrobe, desk and chair, computer link, WiFi and all have en-suite shower and toilet. The residences are formed from clusters of flats, each flat (of between 4 and 10 residents) has its own front door. All the residences are self-catering and each has a shared kitchen. Launderette facilities and bicycle storage are available at each residence.The lowest price for a single room with en-suite and shared kitchen facilities is £131.95 per week.There is no catered university accommodation.
