HISTORY:
Hatfield Technical College was built in 1944 on land donated by the Chairman of the originally to train apprentices for the aeronautics industry. In 1962, Hatfield Polytechnic as it later became, was one of the earliest innovators of computer science degrees. It achieved full university status in 1992 and has developed a reputation for business-related degrees and training as well as for science and technology research.
LOCATION:
Hertfordshire University is a campus university on two sites situated half a mile apart and connected by pathways, cycle lanes and the university owned Uno shuttle bus service. The College Lane campus houses the Student Union, the Forum building, the Learning Resources Centre and the main teaching rooms. The older de Havilland campus is home to the Sports Village and certain teaching departments. The campuses are around 2 miles from the centre of Hatfield. St Albans is 10 minutes away by shuttle bus.
RANKING:
University of Hertfordshire is currently ranked between 601-800th in the Times Higher Education rankings. Hertfordshire is ranked between 901-1000th in the Shanghai Tong Jiao rankings. Hertfordshire is not a member of the Russell group of universities.University of Hertfordshire is ranked 85th in the National Student Survey Satisfaction rankings.

Around 27,200 students study at Hertfordshire University. Of these, around 21,630 are undergraduates, and 5,600 are postgraduates.
EMPLOYMENT:
HESA govt statistics show that 96.5% of Hertfordshire graduates are in employment or in further education 6 months after graduation. FACILITIES:
There are over 100 clubs and societies available to join through the Student Union. The University owns the Hertfordshire Sports Village which is the home of the Saracens Rugby Club. The Weston Auditorium theatre on the de Havilland campus is home to the university’s resident orchestra and the Arts Association runs a programme of dance, music, literary and theatrical events.The Forum is a large campus-based entertainment venue containing bars, eateries and mini clubs. Cinemas, restaurants and other nightlight are to be found close by in St Albans or Welwyn Garden City.
ACCOMMODATION:
All first year undergraduates and all new international students are guaranteed accommodation in University-owned student residences. Contracts are for a duration of between 36 and 40 weeks.Student accommodation is mainly based on two purpose built sites at the University’s campuses: the de Havilland campus offers self-catered flats with 11 rooms in each flat sharing kitchen and common room facilities. At the College Lane campus the new student residence development consists of six halls comprising 12 single rooms all with wash basins and shared bathroom/kitchen facilities.The lowest price for a single room with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities is £122.92 per week.There is no catered university accommodation.

ONLINE COURSES:
Hertfordshire University offers online BA honours degrees in Business Administration and BSc degrees in Computer Science and Information Technology. They have a series of other programmes which include full honours degrees and level 6 top-up degrees.They also offer a wide selection of postgraduate online degrees in a variety of subject areas. These include master's degrees in computer science, film, literature and mental health.
