HISTORY:
The University's foundation stone was laid by King George V on 19 July 1920 and 89 students (including eight female students) enrolled that same year. By September 1939, there were 65 staff and 485 students.
In 1947 there were just two permanent buildings on campus: Singleton Abbey and the library and the principle of the college had a vision to build the first campus based university in UK. By 1960 a large-scale development programme was underway and that expansion programme continues to this day.
LOCATION:
Swansea University, Singleton park campus is set in mature parkland and botanical gardens, overlooking Swansea Bay beach. Singleton Park is the main campus which hosts 9 halls of residence and the main sports facilities and is about 2 miles from the city centre. The newer, Bay campus also houses halls of residence and a student union. The college of engineering and the school of management have moved to the Bay campus.
A frequent bus service is in operation between the Bay Campus, the city centre, and Singleton Park Campus. The journey time between campuses is around 20 minutes. The Bay Campus, Singleton Park Campus and Swansea City Centre are also linked by National Cycle Route 4.
RANKING:
Swansea is ranked between 251-300th in the Times Higher Education World rankings. It is ranked between 401-500th in the Shanghai Jaio Tong rankings and is not a member of the Russell Group of universities.
Swansea is ranked 16th in the National Student Survey Satisfaction rankings.
INTERNATIONAL:
Approximately 25% of students at Swansea university are international students.

99.1% of Swansea’s graduates enter directly into work, further study or training within 6 months of graduation (source:HESA). FACILITIES:
Swansea has a full range of indoor and outdoor sports facilities including an 8 lane athletics track. It also has The 360 Beach and Watersports Centre, a multisport facility on Swansea Bay (a short walk down the Promenade from the University). The university co owns the facility which opened in 2012.
The students union operates 120 societies and 50 sports clubs at the university.
ACCOMMODATION:
Singleton Park offers a range of accommodation and both catered and self catering options. Single occupancy, shared bathroom and kitchen, self-catering options start from £131.00 per week at Singleton.
Part-catered options are available at Kilvey for an example cost of £144.00 per week.
COST:
International undergraduate tuition fee examples:
Fees for full time undergraduate courses start at £15,000 for Law, degrees in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences start at £15,850. Science and Engineering based subjects are between £19,100-£21,350
(No undergraduate entry to medicine).

ONLINE COURSES:
Swansea offers an online MSc Leadership for the health professions course as a 3 year part time, distance learning study option. Swansea also offers a range of continuing professional development courses that are based around work based learning, and give credit for prior learning.
