HISTORY: Kent became a university in 1965. It calls itself the ‘UK’s European university’ and has 7 locations across Europe. As well as 2 UK campuses and 1 centre, it also has 4 European centres in Brussels, Paris, Athens and Rome offering programmes that draw on these cities' strengths as sites of cultural, political and historic significance. Many of the university’s programmes offer dual UK and European qualifications.
LOCATION: Based on the Canterbury campus itself, the university owned accommodation houses over 4,000 students. The Canterbury campus is about 30 minutes walk from Canterbury city centre. On the Medway campus the Liberty Quays accommodation complex is just over half a mile from the campus. Liberty quays has its own supermarket and bistro. There is a free term time shuttle bus operating between the 2 campuses, it runs 7 days a week and the last bus leaves at midnight.
RANKING: Kent is ranked between 351-400th in the Times Higher Education World rankings. It is ranked between 501-600th in the Shanghai Jiao Tong rankings and is not a member of the Russell Group of universities. Kent is ranked 62nd in the National Student Survey Satisfaction rankings.
INTERNATIONAL: Kent currently has over 3,000 international students studying at the university from over 140 countries, representing approximately 15.5% of the total student body. FACILITIES: Kent has 2 campuses. The main campus, where the majority of courses are taught, is in Canterbury and there is another campus in Medway and a centre in Tonbridge focused on part time study options. The Canterbury campus is built on 300 acres of parkland and is half-an-hour’s walk from Canterbury city centre. The campus is home to sports and social facilities including a theatre, cinema and nightclub. The Canterbury campus accommodates over 4,300 students in rooms, flats and houses. The Medway campus is based about 30 miles away, and is about 30 miles from London. It too has on campus accommodation and Medway Park is a multi-sport, facility, located near to the campus. Kent students receive preferential rates to use its sports halls, pools, squash courts, health suites and athletics track. There are over 150 sports clubs and societies running at Kent.
ACCOMMODATION: There are many university accommodation options at Kent on the Canterbury campus ranging from self catering, en suite rooms, to bed and breakfast and ‘flex’ meal options. Self catering accommodation runs for 39 weeks per year. The lowest price for a single room with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities is £128.17 per week. An example price for part-catered accommodation is £241.64 per week at Becket Court (en-suite rooms). This price includes breakfast and dinner during term time.
COST: International students International undergraduate tuition fee examples - BA or BSc: Fees for full time undergraduate courses start at £17,400 for Arts & Humanities, Business, and Social Science subjects, and rise to £21,200 for Science & Engineering subjects.
