HISTORY: The University of Liverpool was founded in 1881 as a university college and is one of the original six red brick civic universities in the country.The University has been home to a number of notable events and discoveries. In 1894 Oliver Lodge, a professor at the University, made the world's first public radio transmission. The University’s historical reputation in the fields of medicine and physics has continued to the present day.Today the University of Liverpool comprises three faculties: Humanities and Social Sciences; Science and Engineering; Health and Life Sciences. The faculties are organised into 35 departments and schools. The University of Liverpool is a founding member of the Russell Group of research intensive universities.
LOCATION: The University of Liverpool is based around a single 100 acre urban campus approximately five minutes walk from Liverpool City Centre. The university accommodation and main outdoor sports facilities are based in Mossley Hill about 3 miles from the main campus. Carnatic student village, in Mossley Hill which houses 1,100 undergraduates has its own central restaurant, bar, laundrette, communal spaces, shops, computer study rooms, a cash machine and its own student health centre.
RANKING: University of Liverpool is ranked =178th in the Times Higher Education rankings. Liverpool is ranked between 101-150th in the Shanghai Jaio Tong rankings and Liverpool is a member of the Russell Group of universities.University of Liverpool is ranked 40th in the National Student Survey Satisfaction rankings.

FACILITIES: The University of Liverpool is mainly based around an urban campus which is less than a ten minute walk from Liverpool city centre. 100 acres in size, the campus contains 192 non-residential buildings that house 69 lecture theatres, 114 teaching areas and state-of-the-art research facilities. There is also a dedicated Student Health Centre and creche.The Victoria Building, opened in 1892, has been restored as the Victoria Gallery and Museum with cafe and associated activities. The university has more than 160 societies including Performing Arts, Celebrating Culture, Accounting and Finance, Music and Debating.The University of Liverpool has a strong sporting focus and has university teams in a variety of sports including football, rugby, cricket, hockey, windsurfing, lacrosse and cheerleading. Sports facilities include a 33 metre swimming pool, 2 sports halls, fitness suite and squash courts.Liverpool has places of worship for every major religion and faith. The Guild of Students is host to religious societies representing each of the major faiths; Baha’i, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam and Sikhism have their own societies.
ACCOMMODATION: There are two main locations for university halls of residence, Greenbank Student Village and Carnatic Halls.Undergraduates applying before 31st August whose first choice university is Liverpool are guaranteed accommodation. The University also guarantees first year international postgraduate students accommodation on campus provided they apply no later than July 31st. Generally first year UK/EU postgraduate students are also accommodated.The lowest price for a single room with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities is £144.97 per week.An example of catered accommodation (with an en-suite bathroom) is £222.46 per week.

International undergraduate tuition fees: Fees for full time undergraduate courses start at £20,000 for most Arts, Humanities and Social Science subjects. Most Life Science courses start at £24,100, and Engineering courses cost £24,500. Physics costs £24,850. Medicine - £37,350
